This broken section of hand guard was dug where the battle of Mill Springs Ky took place. This is a beautiful piece of Confederate history. This particular brass hand guard and the sword blade that it was made for, was made by Thomas Griswold in New Orleans during the Civil War. If you zoom in on the picture, you can see a lot of etching on it. A Griswold design. Too bad the blade could not be found also.
