I have made a lot of great friends through the years of Civil War collecting. We all have the same things in common. Relics, artifacts and history. Through one of these friends, I was able to pick up this great family heirloom, that I promised I would never sell, but pass it on down. The story told to him by his grandfather was, after the battle of Gettysburg, which is where his GGGrandfather lived at the time, moved the family to Maryland, to try to avoid any more bloodshed. His GGGrandfather picked up this handmade Confederate Cannon axle grease can off of the battlefield, and later took it to Maryland with him. It is a beautiful handmade relic that I am honored to get to own for awhile until it gets passed down to my grandson. History stays alive through relics like this.
